Reversed 10 Years of Heartburn and Lost 55 lbs.

Hello, my name is Kerry and I am 23 years old. I took the Weight and Wellness class in September 2010 with my mom to support her. Even though I had been working out three times a week it had not made a difference, I was 50 pounds overweight and my diet wasn’t very healthy. I ate whatever I wanted like take-out or anything easy to snack on – especially chips and Cheeze-Its!
I have suffered from frequent heartburn since age 13. I tried all of the antacids. They were expensive, would help for an hour or so but the heartburn always returned. In addition to heartburn I wasn’t sleeping well and always woke up tired, whether I got 5 hours of sleep or 10 hours of sleep. For 5 months before I took the class, I had been waking up with terrible foot pain in the morning. It was painful to walk for the first 30 minutes each day. My family has a history of heart attack, stroke and diabetes so I have always known that if I didn’t change the way I was eating I would end up with the same problems later in life!
One week before starting the class I cut out soda and juice completely! That step alone helped ease my heartburn and I lost 5 pounds in one week. On September 14th the Weight and Wellness class started. I was so amazed and overwhelmed with what I learned in the first classalone that I started the elimination diet the following week! I was so shocked to see that within one week I had lost 9 pounds and my heartburn was gone, the foot pain was gone, and after the first day I was sleeping 8 hours through the night!
I woke up rested every morning and still do to this day and not one of my previous issues has comeback! For three weeks I stayed away from bread, sugar an d dairy to follow the food sensitivity elimination plan –and it wasn’t always easy, but I did it! I found out that I am very sensitive to dairy. I did love cheese and milk before but now I drink almond milk instead and I like it better. Instead of chips for a snack now I love to snack on almonds, bell peppers, or celery with almond butter. For breakfast I like to have an egg with veggies and a green smoothie! For lunch and dinner I might have chicken and veggies with brown rice, stir fry, chili, or salmon. I am only cooking for myself so I have a ton of leftovers for the next day!
During the first eight weeks that I was living this new lifestyle of eating right and exercising I lost 35 pounds. After seven months I had lost a total of 55 pounds. I have been keeping up with this new lifestyle as much as possible and have felt great for months now! I am eating all gluten-free and dairy-free. I’m not looking to lose much more, I feel very healthy and comfortable where I’m at!
