Valerian Root for Sleep

Valerian Root is calming and relaxing. It will help you fall asleep easier and increase dreaming and deep sleep, without the groggy feeling in the morning.

Valerian root contains many different constituents, including essential oils that contribute to the sedating properties of the herb.

During the last three decades, valerian has been clinically investigated for its tranquilizing properties. Researchers have pinpointed the sesquiterpenes valerenic acid and valerone as the active constituents that exert a calming effect on the central nervous system.

The German Commission E has pronounced valerian to be an effective treatment for restlessness and for sleep disturbances resulting from nervous conditions.

Studies have repeatedly shown that valerian is more effective than placebo and often as effective as sleep medications for people with insomnia.

Having trouble with insomnia?

1. Try soaking in a tub for 20 minutes with 2 cups of Epsom Salts (mix in lavender essential oil before adding the salts to the water).

2. After soaking in the tub, use valerian.

There are several forms to try:

1. Valerian root herbal capsules

3. Valerian Essential Oil

Apply 2 – 4 drops on bottoms of feet, neck, temples.

May diffuse or inhale directly by rubbing 2 drops in palms, rubbing hands together then cupping over nose and mouth and inhaling deeply.
