NO Halo for Halo Top – Avoid!

 CONTAINS BIOENGINEERED FOOD INGREDIENTS

NO Halo for Halo Top

Halo Top Ice cream contains highly processed ingredients.

You are paying a premium price for air, white powders, thickeners and fillers that give you digestive issues and sneak in more calories and carbs than you thought.

Basic Ingredients

Milk, cream, eggs (these ingredients are fine, but what is the source, factory-farmed animals?)

The packaging warns that they use GMO Ingredients: CONTAINS BIOENGINEERED FOOD INGREDIENTS

Erythritol

A sugar alcohol (may come from GMO corn), if consumed frequently it may cause gas, diarrhea, headaches, stomachache.

Prebiotic fiber – <—NOT what you think it is.

When you eat a quart of Halo Top you take in 20 grams of processed white powdered fiber that may cause bloating, constipation or diarrhea.

Prebiotic Fiber – Halo Top won’t be specific but the ingredient is probably the white powder known as IMO – Isomalto-oligosaccharides.

Typically manufacturers list IMO as fiber on the nutrition facts label, when studies have shown that IMO is partially digested and contributes to the carbohydrate content of the food. This means the carbohydrate grams listed are going to be falsely low.  IMO will cause an increase in blood sugar.

Milk Protein Concentrate (highly processed “ultrafiltered skim milk”) Not what you think it is.

MPC2

Ultrafiltered Skim Milk, or Milk Protein Concentrate, (MCP) is a highly processed powder that is often imported from cheap sources overseas.

“Milk protein concentrate (MPC) powders are obtained from skim milk by membrane processing (ultrafiltration, UF, with optional diafiltration, DF), evaporation and drying, containing all the caseins and whey proteins in the same ratio as the original skim milk (Martin et al., 2010).”

Read my article on MPC here to find out why you must ALWAYS avoid eating any food with MPC or “ultrafiltered skim milk” in the ingredient list.

Vegetable Glycerine

This is another sugar alcohol. It is used as a thickener or sweetener in processed foods. Glycerine or Glycerol is highly processed from vegetable oils (like soybean oil) that are put under a combination of forces from pressure, water and temperature.

Natural Flavors – Unknown source, may act like MSG.

Natural Colors – Unknown source.

Guar Gum, Carob Gum – Thickeners and stabilizers.

Stevia

Air – Air is whipped into the product so that you think you are getting a quart of regular ice cream. No.

Halo top – a quart weighs 264 grams (9.3 oz)

Real Ice Cream – a quart weighs 428 grams (15 oz)

Why are you spending $6 a quart on this highly processed junk ice cream?

Just buy Real Ice Cream made with organic ingredients.

NOT: Ben & Jerry’s, Breyers, Dreyers or most other store brands that are made with conventional milk (not organic), GMO corn sugar, trans fats (mono- and di-glycerides), soybean oil and carrageenan.

Better Options for Ice cream (dairy and non-dairy)

Here is one brand (if you tolerate dairy) that is easy to find in stores

Alden’s Organic Premium Ice Cream. They support family farms, made in USA, no MPC, no IMO, no sugar alcohols, no carrageenan.
