Cholesterol and Fat are Essential

Cholesterol and fat are essential

Ask most Americans if cholesterol is good or bad and most will give it thumbs down. We envision our arteries to be simple tubes and cholesterol to be sticky blobs that course through the tubes until they gum up the works and cause a heart attack.  To prevent this scenario, many people avoid eating foods rich in cholesterol.  Unfortunately, this type of thinking is not based on science.

Believe it or not, cholesterol and fat are essential (E-S-S-E-N-T-I-A-L) to life.

We need to consume healthy fat and cholesterol to be healthy.

Cholesterol

  • is a key player in stabilizing mood
  • is essential for brain function
  • insulates your nerves
  • builds healthy cell membranes
  • maintains a healthy immune system
  • is essential for the formation of important hormones like sex hormones.

Are you guilty of throwing away the healthy yolk and eating just the egg white?

Then you have been sucked into the thinking that cholesterol is bad.

Do you let the doctor draw your blood and perform a cholesterol test to determine that you need to be put on drugs?

If you have dodged that bullet, hang on, they are coming for you!

1 out of 3 people take cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Millions and millions of people are on statin drugs. These drugs are the cash cow for pharmaceutical companies. Pfizer makes $13 Billion a year from just one of these drugs, Lipitor.

Doctors seem to think that everybody should be on cholesterol-lowering drugs but they come with horrible side effects like

  • Muscle weakness (by the way, your heart is a muscle)
  • Brain fog
  • Memory problems.

Independent researcher from University of California in San Diego, Dr. Beatrice Golomb, says

“We have people who have lost thinking ability so rapidly that within the course of a couple of months they went from being head of major divisions of companies to not being able to balance a checkbook and being fired from their company.”

Do you know ANYONE taking cholesterol medication?

Below a NASA astronaut and doctor discusses his memory loss due to Lipitor:

“I had no awareness of my marriage or my four children; my medical school days or my ten adventure-filled years as a USAF flight surgeon; my selection as a NASA scientist-astronaut or my post-retirement decade as a writer of medical fiction.”   (but don’t worry, it is JUST a side effect)

Your doctor will tell you that there are dozens of positive studies that prove these drugs are beneficial and safe.

Yet, independent researcher, Dr. Beatrice Golomb, says most of the studies were funded by the companies, like Pfizer, that make the drugs.

Do you really need a drug to lower cholesterol?

Usually you do not.

Lifestyle change is easy and doesn’t wipe out your libido or your global memory like Lipitor may. Perhaps you are afraid that your total cholesterol is too high and you might suffer a heart attack. This newsletter would could be pages longer to explain why that is unlikely.  So why don’t you pick up a book and read for yourself:

Pick up a copy of Cholesterol Clarity, What the HDL is Wrong with my Numbers? by Eric Westman, MD – This is the best book on the subject and includes comments from 29 experts.

The Schwarzbein Principle by Diana Schwarzbein, MD is a favorite book I like to recommend too.  It is easy to read and clearly explains this subject.  It is also a great book if you are eating low-fat anything (fat does not make you fat), or if you are addicted to sugar and carbs.

What is your total Cholesterol?

Who cares!

What is your Total Cholesterol? Who cares! Looking at only your “total cholesterol” lab result doesn’t provide enough information. It is a sum of the LDL and HDL fractions.

We want more of the HDL kind.

If you only look at your total cholesterol it is like asking what the score of the baseball game was and having your friend say, “seven”.

Seven? No, who won? How many runs did our team score?

We want our team (HDL) to have the higher score. The total number of runs scored (total cholesterol) in the game is irrelevant unless you know what the individual team scores were.

Myth: LDL is “bad cholesterol” and HDL is “good cholesterol”

Truth: Both LDL and HDL have specific functions in the body.

LDL is like the UPS truck, delivering cholesterol through the body so that we can make hormones and protect cell membranes. HDL has the job of picking up extra cholesterol and sending it to the liver.

We need both of them, but we need them in the right balance.

  • LDL/HDL Risk Ratio 1.1 – 3.6 = average risk while below 1.1 is below average risk.
  • A good ratio of Total Cholesterol to HDL is below 5:1.

Here’s what to ask your doctor concerning cholesterol:

1. What is my HDL to LDL ratio?

2. What is my Total Cholesterol to HDL ratio?

Dr. Joseph Mercola said,

“I have seen a number of people with total cholesterol levels over 250 who were actually at low risk for heart disease due to their elevated HDL levels. Conversely, I have seen many people with cholesterol levels under 200 who had a very high risk of heart disease, based on their low HDL.”

We are not numbers on a lab report. I don’t think God has been waiting for the pharmaceutical companies to invent Lipitor so that we could all be saved from doom.

We need cholesterol and when we lower it to ridiculously low levels then our body doesn’t have the building materials for making healthy cells or for making hormones.

Imagine how happy this makes the pharmaceutical companies. You buy their drug to lower your cholesterol, which messes with the God-given system for making sex hormones, which sends you back to the doctor for another prescription of Viagra. Pfizer is laughing all the way to the bank.

Half the people who die of a heart attack never had high cholesterol, yet we are told we need to get on Lipitor or other drugs as soon as our total cholesterol hits a certain number.
