Woman tried to commit suicide while taking antidepressants and she blames the drug.

Recently I spoke with a woman who said she tried to commit suicide while taking Zoloft and she blames the drug. She contacted a lawyer who said he couldn’t do anything because she wasn’t dead.

This woman weaned herself off her medication, I assume with the help of her doctor. She is using essential oils and a healthy diet as a natural solution to combat her daily stresses that creep into everyday life. She is adamant that this is safely keeping her balanced.

Essential oils contain powerful plant constituents, such as the cedrol found in cedarwood and Linalyl Acetate in Lavender and Limonene in Lime. When used topically or inhaled, this woman found that the oils help induce relaxation and reduce occasional nervous tension.*

Perhaps alternative treatments, dietary changes (get the plan in my book, The Reclaim Diet) and other safe interventions should be implemented as a mandatory first step before drugs are prescribed.

Zoloft and SSRIs

From the manufacturer: Zoloft is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Zoloft is used to treat some types of depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder (PD), and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Some young people may have increased suicidal thoughts when first starting a medicine to treat depression. Your doctor will need to check your progress on a regular basis. Your family or caregivers should also watch for sudden changes in your behavior.

Monitor all antidepressant-treated patients for clinical worsening and emergence of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, especially during the initial few months of drug therapy and at times of dosage changes. Counsel family members or caregivers of patients to monitor for changes in behavior and to alert the healthcare provider. Consider changing the therapeutic regimen, including possibly discontinuing Zoloft, in patients whose depression is persistently worse, or who are experiencing emergent suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

No Evidence to Support the Serotonin Theory

“Leading psychiatrists have known for a long time that there was no evidence to support the serotonin theory of depression. But no one has informed the general public of that.” [Joanna Moncrieff]

  • More than 13% of adults aged 18 and over used antidepressant medications in the past 30 days. Use was higher among women (17.7%) than men (8.4%). [source]

    • In Health and Nutrition Secrets, Dr. Russell L. Blaylock writes, “It is also known that these medications increase brain levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which, in high concentrations, can also act as an excitotoxin.” When antidepressant drugs raise serotonin to an excitotoxin level, the brain reacts in ways similar to mental illness. According to Burton Goldberg’s book, Alternative Medicine, side effects of SSRIs include uncontrollable facial and body tics, dizziness, hallucinations, nausea, sexual dysfunction, addiction, electric-shock-like sensations in the brain and, of course, homicidal or suicidal thoughts and behavior.

What about the long-term side effects of antidepressants? [source]

      • Sexual problems (72%), including the inability to reach orgasm (65%)
      • Weight gain (65%)
      • Feeling emotionally numb (65%)
      • Not feeling like themselves (54%)
      • Reduced positive feelings (46%)
      • Feeling as if they’re addicted (43%)
      • Caring less about other people (36%)
      • Feeling suicidal (36%)

While antidepressants are designed to decrease the symptoms of depression, they occasionally have the opposite effect and can increase suicidal thoughts and actions.

Patients who take antidepressants may experience harmful side effects:

violent behavior, mania or aggression, which can all lead to suicide.

What begins as withdrawing from friends and activities and a loss of interest in work can escalate to harming oneself. In clinical trials and public use, there have been cases where antidepressant users have thought about, attempted or committed suicide.

Antidepressants have also been shown to have other dangerous side effects, including severe birth defects when a woman takes the drug during pregnancy. In fact, dozens of women who took antidepressants during pregnancy have filed lawsuits after their children suffered birth defects.

Antidepressants and Incidence of Suicide

Every year, 30,000 people in the United States die by suicide, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Among those who are diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD), seven out of 100 men and one out of 100 women will commit suicide. For every suicide, there are 11 suicide attempts.
